Guest Episode
An Oxford Professor's Guide to Sleep & Longevity | Prof Russell Foster
In this episode of the Emerald Health Podcast, we sit down with Prof Russell Foster, Professor of Circadian Neuroscience at the University of Oxford, to explore what really happens when you sleep and why it matters so much for your health. From understanding your body clock to the truth about light, chronotypes and melatonin, Prof Foster cuts through the noise with decades of research and practical insight. Essential listening for anyone who wants to take their sleep seriously.
Impairment of the body clock is linked to cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, immune impairment, mental illness and dementia, yet most of us have never been told how our sleep really works. Prof Foster changes that, explaining what the body clock actually is, why the eight hour rule was never meant to apply to everyone, what light and screens really do before bed, and whether melatonin does what people think it does. He breaks down exactly what you need to know to understand your sleep and take control of it before poor sleep becomes poor health.
